There are two layers protecting your payment details. Lingokids asks a grown-up to answer a question before any payment screen appears, so your kids never stumble onto one. And in your app store, you can turn on authentication so a password or approval is needed before anything is bought.
What Does Lingokids Do to Protect Payments?
Every payment or subscription screen in the app sits behind the Parental Gate — a question only a grown-up can answer. Your kids can't reach anything to do with payments or marketing on their own. There's more on this in is Lingokids safe for kids.
How Do I Stop Purchases on an Apple Device?
- If your kids have their own device — turn on Ask to Buy, and any purchase request comes to you for approval before it goes through
- If your kids use your device — set it to require a password for every purchase
How Do I Stop Purchases on an Android Device?
Turn on purchase authentication in the Play Store, so your password is needed every time. Google's guide walks through it: require authentication for purchases.
How Do I Stop Purchases on an Amazon Fire Tablet?
- Open the Amazon Appstore.
- Go to Account, then Settings, then Parental Controls.
- Select Enable Parental Controls.
- Enter your Amazon account password.
Your password will be needed for any in-app purchase from then on. If your kids have their own Fire tablet, you can also approve requests remotely from the Amazon Parent Dashboard.
What If I Need to Turn These Off to Subscribe?
If a purchase won't go through because of these settings, the easiest fix is to subscribe on your own device instead. See why you can't purchase a subscription on your kid's tablet — and if you do turn a control off, remember to put it back afterwards.
