The Lingokids app asks for three device permissions, and only when a specific activity needs one: microphone, camera, and photo access. Microphone access lets your kids add audio to stories and scenes, and talk to Baby Bot. Camera access lets your kids take photos during art and photo booth activities. Photo access lets your kids save their drawings and photo booth creations to your device's gallery.
Lingokids never asks for a permission in the background. Every permission request goes through the Parental Gate first, so a grown-up decides.
Why Does Lingokids Ask for Camera, Microphone, and Photo Access?
Some Lingokids activities need a device feature to work at all, so your device asks your permission before that activity can use it. Every app has to request permission this way — the pop-up comes from your device, not from Lingokids.
Here is a real example. In the Talking Baby Bot activity, Baby Bot repeats back everything your kids say. That activity needs microphone permission enabled, because without the microphone Baby Bot cannot hear your kids in order to repeat them.
For what happens to photos and voice recordings once an activity captures them, see whether Lingokids uses your camera, microphone, or photos.
What Is the Parental Gate?
The Parental Gate is a challenge that only a grown-up can complete, and it appears before any device permission can be enabled. The Parental Gate means your kids cannot switch on the camera, microphone, or photo access on their own, so no permission gets enabled by accident.
When you pass the Parental Gate, you will see a confirmation screen naming the feature the activity wants to use, and you can enable that feature directly from there.

Which Permissions Does Lingokids Use, and What For?
-
Microphone — add audio to stories and scenes, and record your kids' voice so they can interact with Baby Bot
-
Camera — take photos during activities, following the safe instructions the Lingokids characters give
- Photo access, sometimes called gallery access — save drawings and photo booth creations to your device's gallery or album
How Do I Review or Change Lingokids App Permissions?
If you declined a permission earlier, or you want to check which Lingokids permissions are currently enabled, change them in your device's own settings rather than in the Lingokids app. Each device manufacturer handles app permissions differently, so follow the guide for your device:
- How to review app permissions on an iPhone or iPad
- How to review app permissions on an Android device
- How to review app permissions on an Amazon device
