Purchases usually fail on a kid's tablet because parental controls or Ask to Buy are switched on — which is exactly what they're there for. The simplest fix is to subscribe on your own phone or on our website instead, then log in on your kid's tablet with the same email address. The subscription follows your account, not the device, so everything's there when they open the app.
Can I Just Subscribe on My Own Device?
Yes, and it's the easiest route. Subscribe on your own phone, tablet or on the Lingokids website, then open the app on your kid's tablet and log in with the same email address. Nothing on their device needs changing. See how to use Lingokids on more than one device.
What If Ask to Buy Is Switched On?
Ask to Buy isn't there to block the purchase — it sends it to you for approval. Start the purchase on your kid's tablet and the request will pop up on the family organiser's device, where you can approve it. No settings need turning off.
How Do I Allow Purchases on an iPhone or iPad?
If you'd rather buy on your kid's device, you can allow purchases temporarily.
- Open the Settings app on the device.
- Tap Screen Time.
- Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.
- Set In-App Purchases to Allow.
- Buy the Lingokids subscription.
- Put the restriction back once you're done, so your kid can't make purchases on their own.
How Do I Allow Purchases on an Android Tablet?
- Open the Play Store app on the tablet.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right corner.
- Tap Settings, then Family.
- Allow purchases or purchase approvals.
- Buy the Lingokids subscription.
- Put the controls back once you're done.
